January 2024 NewsLetter
Farewell January, Welcome February!
As I reflect on my first month as a Sussex County Commissioner, I'm grateful for the chance to serve our community. It's been an enlightening and educational experience, from collaborating with department heads to undertaking liaison responsibilities for different boards and committees. Here are some January highlights:
The Farmland Preservation Revitalization Tour: Starting on January 17th, this tour serves as a direct outreach initiative on my behalf to engage with communities and reinforce our commitment to preserving Sussex County's rich agricultural heritage. Throughout January, I've spoken to the following municipality boards and committees to collaborate on this effort:
Green Township Committee
Andover Township Committee
Lafayette Open Space Committee
Green Township Agriculture Committee
Hampton Township Committee.
Liaison Responsibilities: As part of my role, I serve as liaison to several boards, committees, and organizations, including:
Agriculture Development Board
Open Space Committee
Department of Health and Human Services
Board of Taxation
Sussex County Historical Society
Capital Projects
Sussex County Community College and its Board of School Estimate
Technical School Board of School Estimate
Lake Musconetcong Regional Planning Board
Musconetcong River Management Council
New Jersey Association of Counties
Looking ahead, I am fully committed to expanding our outreach efforts through the farmland preservation revitalization tour. Moreover, for the various boards, committees, and organizations I am liaising with, I intend to foster the relationships established during introductory meetings and explore avenues for collaborative efforts that will benefit Sussex County. January laid the foundation for our initiatives, paving the way to harvest a brighter future for all residents of Sussex County. Thank you as always for your support, and I am very excited about the journey ahead.
Sincerely,
Jack DeGroot
