November 2024 Newsletter
The Holiday Season is Here!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! As November fades into memory, December has arrived, bringing with it an opportunity to reflect and share some of the progress I’ve made as one of your Sussex County Commissioners this past month.
I’m excited to report that the County Agriculture Development Board’s subcommittee held its second virtual meeting to advance the update of our Farmland Preservation Plan. The meeting was well-attended, with representatives from over half of the municipalities involved in farmland preservation, including council members, mayors, planners, administrators, and engineers. This gathering was a fantastic opportunity to inform, engage, and collaborate on the progress of the plan. Looking ahead, the Land Conservancy will distribute a survey specifically to municipalities to formally gather input and recommendations regarding each community’s participation in the farmland preservation program.
Additionally, a public survey has been launched to gather valuable feedback from Sussex County residents. I encourage you to take a moment to share your thoughts by clicking the button below to access the survey. The questions focus on your use of local farms and agricultural markets, the biggest challenges facing farmland in our county, and the importance of agriculture to Sussex County’s identity and future. Your input is so valuable as we work to shape a Farmland Preservation Plan that reflects the needs and desires of our community.
As December begins and I approach the completion of my first year in office, I look forward to sharing a comprehensive review of our accomplishments and outlining our goals for 2025. Whether through advancements in agriculture, education at SCCC and Sussex Tech, initiatives within the Division of Senior Services, or other key areas, I remain committed to keeping you informed every step of the way in my role as County Commissioner.
Your continued support has made an incredible difference, and I am dedicated to working tirelessly to deliver meaningful, lasting improvements for Sussex County. Thank you for believing in our shared vision and for helping to drive growth and success in our community. I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and are enjoying the start of this festive holiday season!
Sincerely,
Jack DeGroot
